After years of scissors-and-card dodging tools I stuck a blob of blu-tack on a cocktail stick and it’s changed my printing life. Mouldable to any highlight shape, nearly invisible shadow edge if you keep it moving, and it lives in my paper box. Someone tell me there’s a proper name for this.
The proper name is "a dodging tool" and the pros pay £15 for a set that does it worse. I use the same trick with a bit of coat-hanger wire for long reaches into the middle of 16x12s.
Stealing this for the eyes on portraits — card discs are always the wrong size. One warning from experience: don’t leave the blu-tack on the baseboard under the lamp, it goes soft and you’ll find grey fingerprints on your next three prints.
